The Real Martha Jones

Martha Jones was played by Freema Agyeman as a companion to the tenth Doctor in BBC's Doctor Who series and really won't need much of an introduction to many of you. But there was a more infamous "other" Martha Jones - the fifth victim of Vermont's Long Trail which runs along the spine of the Green Mountains, USA.

Martha Jones disappeared on November 6th, 1950 and it was first thought that she had run off to join her boyfriend in Virginia. This was proved to be a false assumption and a search was launched. It brought no results.

A total of six people vanished along Vermont's Long Trail between November 1945 and December 1950. Only one of their bodies was found - that of an experienced woodswoman, Frieda Langer, who disappeared earlier in the same year as Martha Jones.

Eagle eyed Doctor Who fans will spot that Frieda Langer shares a surname with Clyde Langer of the BBC's Sarah Jane Adventures show.

No one has found satisfactory reasoning behind why these disappearances began and ended.
